I purchased a practice the day I graduated from chiropractic school, the ink hadn't even dried on my diploma. The practice I purchased was already amazing. Educational systems were in place for clients, and my team couldn't have been better advocates for chiropractic. My patients were amazing and loyal - even to a new grad who had little idea what she was doing running a business.
In spite of walking into an amazing practice, I realized very quickly that I had a few major shortcomings when it came to taking great care of my patients. It wasn't my adjusting technique - although that's come a long way, too. I realized more than anything - I didn't know how to design care plans customized on each client's needs and goals. I was taking a "one-size fits all" approach.....which was really a "one-size fits none" approach, because I wasn't giving realistic recommendations to anyone.
My second shortcoming was my complete lack of confidence when it came to finances. I had no idea the value I was providing to my patients because I hadn't yet seen the impact it would have in their lives. I have no doubt patients could sense this, and instead of them beginning the care plans they needed, I we defaulted to a "pay by time" and "as needed" approach. Not my finest work.
I wasted a ton of time and money
